Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do. – Ecclesiastes 11:9 (NLT)

2020 Report

“With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world!” (Education, p.271)

The Willowdale Warriors Pathfinder ministry welcomed 2020 in high spirits, along with an ambitious bucket list.

It was soon realized due to ongoing updates of the new coronavirus, changes had to be made. This was reflected in the postponement of our scheduled January downtown Toronto community outreach. Meanwhile, much to our delight, our Sunday drilling attendance increased significantly. The annual club lock-in was held over the Family day long weekend, and it was a roaring success with an added treat of a Cookie Bake-Off. The games, food, laughter, bonding, and lack of sleep heightened the experience of the event. CPR training was also completed in February. The long-awaited “Taste of the Islands” fundraiser was launched, and we were overjoyed. The fundraiser was heavily promoted. Tickets were sold, t-shirts were ordered, donated items were received from various Caribbean embassies and a lavish menu was planned.

March ended like a lion as we found ourselves at home, looking forward to our next in-person meeting. With the support of the church and directions from the conference, we were able to start bi-weekly Zoom meetings in April – the reunion was spectacular! Our very dedicated team stepped up to the challenge of teaching in a Zoom environment with much gusto. They worked tirelessly for each Pathfinder to have a positive experience and successfully complete the curriculum. The annual investiture ceremony was postponed, but we forged ahead with plans for the new club year.

During the summer months, the staff attended various online training workshops offered by the Ontario conference and the North American division. Training in areas of camping and outdoor education, risk management, leadership, programming and planning, philosophy, etc. was received to ensure the Pathfinders received quality and relevant Christian education.

In September, the world Pathfinder ministry celebrated 70 years of Pathfindering. September was also the beginning of a new year for the Willowdale Warriors. We welcomed four new pathfinders into the club with heartfelt gratitude. There were directors, staff, and parent meetings to provide information and stay connected. Adjustments were made to the curriculum and a new district and area coordinator were assigned to the Willowdale Warriors PF club. We said goodbye to 2020 together with games, gifts, appreciation, best wishes and thanksgiving.

Despite the challenges of 2020, God continues to bless the efforts of the Willowdale Warriors. Pathfindering helps prepare youth for service and ministry. We are blessed to be a part of such a nurturing and dynamic ministry.
